THREE PHILOSOPHERS / New York, NY

THREE PHILOSOPHERS / New York, NY

is a unique blend of a Belgian-style dark ale and Liefmans Kriek, an authentic cherry ale from Belgium. Cherry chestnut in color, it’s opaque but not cloudy with full carbonation topped by a smooth, tan head. Flavors and aromas of roasted malt, molasses and brown sugar, dark fruits, brandied raisins and chocolate, Three Philosophers has notable sweetness with low hop bitterness. The mid-palate shows a soft malt center which gives way to a dry, warm, wine-like finish.

The complexity of this beer make it a good candidate for ageing gracefully, as spicy sherry and port notes should intensify. IBU’s 19 ABV 9.7%

Espresso Porter

Light bodied, mild porter with strong aromas and flavors contributed equally by the chocolate malts and the cold brewed coffee

This beer is a collaborative project between Palmetto Brewing and our neighbors, the Charleston Coffee roasters. After many years together under the same roof, Ed and Lowell decided to wrap their collective brainpower around the concept of using expertly and locally roasted coffee in this beer. After several roasts and different coffee beans, the final recipe is truly a work of art combining bold flavors in a delicate balance. This beer is tasty and highly refreshing… suitable for every Lowcountry season.

SMUTTYNOSE THELEMA / Hampton, NH

The Belgian Golden Strong Ale is a style that was first developed and popularized by the Moortgat Brewery of Belgium in an attempt to lure drinkers from mass produced light lagers back to traditional strong Belgian beers. Moortgat’s effort in this area resulted in the beer called Duvel (“Devil”) which is still popular to this day.

Belgian Strong Golden Ales can resemble Belgian Tripels in many ways due to their golden color and crisp finish, though they are normally a bit crisper, drier and lighter in color.

SMUTTY NOSE PEACH / Hampton, NH

The color is a hazed golden sort of like peach juice with quickly dissipating head. The smell is very nice -lots of peach aromas with subtle hint of smoke. The feel is very tart and lactic with some mild smoke in the back with a dry yet sour finish.

The taste is excellent -I love how much peach flavor this has and the sourness while pretty high is not off putting to me as the smoke is a supporting taste to the slightly sweet peach in the middle. There is a lactic tanginess in the finish which continues for a while keeping the pucker factor high. I really don’t think this tastes like a 6.9% Berliner it is so drinkable I would recommend this to fans of peach and sour.

MONK’S BLOOD / San Francisco, CA

MONK’S BLOOD  / San Francisco, CA

Pays homage to the monk’s of Belgium’s monasteries who have been brewing some of the world’s great beer for centuries. During times of fasting, the monks subsist solely on beer, which they refer to as ‘liquid bread’. Beer, quite literally, is in their blood. The most sublime of the monk’s premium brews is dark like blood, rich and nourishing.

21st Amendment founders Nico Freccia and Shaun O’Sullivan traveled to Belgium to develop the recipe for this special beer, visiting small, traditional breweries in the hop fields of west Flanders, not far from the famous Trappist abbey of Westvletren. Monk’s Blood is designed to pair beautifully with rich winter stews, creamy cheeses, unctuous desserts or just by itself, in a Belgian tulip glass, with a good book by the fire.

Our first beer out of our new brewery is an homage to its former life as a toaster pastry factory.

BOULEVARD LOVE CHILD #6 / Kansas City, MO

BOULEVARD LOVE CHILD #6  / Kansas City, MO

The sixth bottling in our Love Child series represents a bit of a departure from previous releases. Starting at the beginning, Love Child beers have a blend of soured Bourbon Barrel Quad and a Flanders-style sour red aged in previously used whiskey barrels. As the series progressed, the blends were composed primarily of the Flanders-style red aged in a variety of previously used whiskey and wine barrels, stainless tanks, and a foeder. For this reason, there’s been a steady decline in ABV from Love Child No. 1 (12.5 ABV) to more recent releases that fell in the 8-9.5% range.

The base beer for Love Child No. 6 is a strong Belgian-style blonde ale. Following primary fermentation with our house Belgian yeast strain, the beer was transferred into previously used wine barrels and stainless vessels and inoculated with lactobacillus and brettanomyces. At the end of 18 months, our brewing and quality teams met to taste samples from wine barrels and our stainless aging tanks to create the blend. After tasting and tinkering, we finalized a blend composed of 70% wine barrel aged beer and 30% stainless aged beer.

Pouring a golden/bronze color, Love Child No. 6 opens with aromas of lemon, tart cherry and underripe strawberry with a touch of oak. Lactobacillus provides a crisp, refreshing acidity with fruit and oak notes presenting in the flavor of the beer. Ending fermentation quite dry at 1.6 Plato, Love Child No. 6 tapers to a subtle oaky finish that begs for another sip. At 9.2 ABV and 11 IBUs, our latest Love Child blend is a perfect match for aged/funky cheese, desserts with fruit and tangy/citrusy salads.

ABITA BIG EASY SESSION IPA / New Orleans, LA

ABITA BIG EASY SESSION IPA  / New Orleans, LA

This beer was inspired by life in the Big Easy, the Mississippi River and the paddlewheel steamboats that have traveled these waters for nearly two centuries. When you kick back and watch the Mississippi from the levee, the boats and barges seem to slip by at a snail’s pace, easing on down the river. The Mississippi rolls right through the heart of New Orleans, past Jackson Square. Yet beneath the placid surface, the mighty Mississippi pulses with power. Our Big Easy Session IPA delivers the same powerful hop flavor you expect from an IPA, with a body, finish, and ABV that makes this beer go down easy.

While riverboats were once tools of commerce, today they treat friends, neighbors and sightseers to tours of the river and impressive views of the powerful paddlewheel in action. Whether you are boarding a riverboat cruise, attending a music festival, hanging in the park or headed to the beach, there’s nothing like good friends and a cooler full of Big Easy to toast the occasion.

WIDMER BROS. HEFE  / Portland, OR

Style Characteristics

The aroma and flavor of a Weissbier with yeast is decidedly fruity and phenolic. The phenolic characteristics are often described as clove-, nutmeg-like, mildly smoke-like or even vanilla-like. Banana-like esters should be present at low to medium-high levels. These beers are made with at least 50 percent malted wheat, and hop rates are quite low. Hop flavor and aroma are absent or present at very low levels. Weissbier is well attenuated and very highly carbonated and a medium to full bodied beer. The color is very pale to pale amber. Because yeast is present, the beer will have yeast flavor and a characteristically fuller mouthfeel and may be appropriately very cloudy. No diacetyl should be perceived.

NATTY GREENE’S SEASONAL / Greensboro, NC

NATTY GREENE’S SEASONAL / Greensboro, NC

Released on the 4th of July, Freedom is our all-American IPA. Big and bold, it’s all about the hops, and we use a lot of hops in every stage of the brewing process, starting with the mash and lautering, all the way through to dry-hopping.

Freedom is loaded with Centennial, Apollo, and Chinook hops, with an emphasis on the Chinook. Less often used by west coast brewers, Chinook gives Freedom a big citrus flavor without the grapefruit bite – more of a tangerine taste.

On the malt side, we dial things back to get just enough sweetness for balance, creating a hop-forward beer with plenty of complexity. ABV 6.5%   IBU 81

Deriving its name from Edgar Allan Poe’s classic tale of madness and murder, our newest Smokestack Series release takes a predictably lighthearted approach to the subject of sourness. The subtle acidity of Tell-Tale Tart is answered by a soft, biscuity malt character, making this a sour ale that suggests, rather than announcing its tartness. Beginning with a bracing sharpness at first sip, the ale mellows on the palate to a smooth and faintly lingering finish.

Tangier has inspired thousands of legendary stories. It is a land that has fallen under Roman, Arab and Portuguese rule, and it’s home to legends tall and small. The city is an enigma with a history unlike any other and it’s a worthy namesake of our 2XTangier.

A Double India Pale Ale with spicy citrus aromas and stone fruit flavors. These flavors, with the addition of lightly roasted malts and brilliant hop bitterness, make 2XTangier a beverage as refreshing as it is exotic. 2XTangier is brewed as a stronger, bolder ale than its older brother, Tangier. It shares the same synergy between tangerine peel and spicy, citrusy, Mosaic hops. Enjoy 2XTangier in celebration of your epic adventure.
